What is a Life Coach?
Let’s consider the other types of coaches you are familiar with, such as football coaches, fitness trainers, etc. These are trained professionals who specialize in helping others succeed in reaching their fullest potential and goals. They are able to see obstacles and counter-productive thought patterns that the client is unable to see alone. While therapy or counseling is introspective and analytical, focusing on one’s past, life coaching is action-oriented and will focus on your current obstacles, challenges, and mindset to maximize your present life as well as your future. Life coaches are not health professionals, and they do not diagnose you.
The definition of a life coach is a professional who can help you excel in all areas of life. Some of the most common steps clients take while working with life coaches include:
- Identifying goals and defining a vision for success
- Clarifying calling and purpose
- Creating professional and personal growth plans
- Identifying limiting beliefs
- Working toward financial freedom
- Obtaining work/life balance
- Learning to communicate more succinctly and effectively
- Fostering more powerful connections professionally and personally
- Getting promotions
- Achieving weight loss and/or fitness goals
- Starting a new business or growing an existing one
- Managing an important life or business transition
- Articulating core values
